SPRINGFIELD Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White has announced that the Illinois State Library has unveiled a new Illinois Authors Browsing Collection featuring works by a number of Illinois authors.
"This collection truly demonstrates the depth and breadth of talent possessed by Illinois authors," White said. "The collection offers something for everyone, with non-fiction, fiction and a large selection of children's books represented. I hope patrons will take the opportunity to examine this outstanding selection of works."
The collection is located next to the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of the Library. Among the popular authors included in the collection are Stephen Ambrose, David Mamet, Shel Silverstein, Barbara D'Amato, Hugh Holton, Mike Royko, David Foster Wallace, Richard Powers and Andrew Greeley.
The collection is the only circulating browsing collection in the Library, since the majority of the Library's collection is shelved in closed stacks. The new collection is also separate from the Library's Illinois Authors Reading Room collection, which is non-circulating and features writings of the 35 Illinois authors whose names are engraved on the Library's fourth-floor frieze.
Most of the materials in the Illinois Authors Browsing Collection were obtained from donations or were purchased from Illinois Center for the Book receipts from the annual Illinois Authors Book Fair held at the State Library.
White said state employees, persons with a valid Illinois public library card, retired state employees or persons with a valid library card from an ILLINET Online member library may check out materials from the collection.
