Secretary of State Jesse White Unveils
New CDL Testing System
Automated Technology Combats Fraud

CHICAGO –– Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White recently unveiled a new computer testing system that will strengthen security measures and minimize fraud during exams for commercial driver's licenses.

"The new system will weed out cheaters and opportunists from obtaining a CDL," White said. "It's designed to restore integrity to the testing process."

The new computers will randomly select test questions from a pool of 900. A different test with varying questions will be generated each time. The computer immediately grades the test and enters the results, removing the human element from the process.

Previously, applicants took written tests on paper. Once completed, an employee would grade the exam and enter the results in the system.

"The computer is consistent, easy to use and decreases the time it takes to process each applicant," White said. "This is another way for us to ensure that only the most qualified truck drivers are on the roads."

The new computer system has been implemented at the Elk Grove Village, South Holland and West Chicago facilities. By the end of June, the system will be up and running at 10 facilities across the state, including Libertyville, Rockford CDL, Springfield, Morris, Moline, Bradley and Plano.
