Family Reading Night

Family Reading Night, sponsored by Jesse White, Secretary of State and State Librarian, and the Illinois Center for the Book, is an annual statewide event that encourages families to spend quality time reading together. This year's Family Reading Night is scheduled for November 17, 2011.

How to Participate

Each year, posters and bookmarks are made available for libraries and literacy organizations to promote Family Reading Night. To participate in Family Reading Night, submit the Family Reading Night Materials Order Form to the Illinois State Library before March 15, 2012. Materials ordered after the March 15 deadline cannot be guaranteed.

Family Reading Night Photos

Photos from your 2011 Family Reading Night event showing families reading together, will be considered for inclusion in next year's Family Reading Night poster. Please label all photos with the agency name, a description, and the first and last names of each person in the photo, and submit them to:

The deadline for submitting photos for the 2012 poster is February 14, 2012. Photos for the 2011 poster have already been selected. If your photo is selected, you will be contacted to obtain release information for those in the picture. Photos will NOT be returned.
