Instructions for Adopting a Corporate Assumed Name

Domestic corporations, both business and not for profit, can adopt an assumed name on-line. A foreign business or not for profit corporation can adopt an assumed name on-line if it is incorporated in one of the other 49 U.S. states or the District of Columbia. The corporation must be on file and in good standing on the records of the Department of Business Services at the time of adoption.

Only one assumed name can be adopted per filing. The filing for an assumed name adoption is $90. An expedited fee ($50 for a business corporation and $25 for a not for profit corporation) will also be charged as the assumed name adoption will be processed by the Department of Business Services within 24 hours (excluding weekends and holidays). The total amount charged will be $140.00 for a business corporation ($115.00 for a not for profit corporation), each of which includes a $5.00 payment processor fee.

Payment must be in the form of an e-check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express).
