Genealogical Research Series Pamphlet No. 8

Illinois State Genealogical Society
Microfilm Collection

The Illinois State Genealogical Society (ISGS) has cooperated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) in microfilming materials of genealogical interest owned by private individuals and organizations throughout Illinois. This cooperation has existed since 1980 and has resulted in the society’s receipt of duplicate copies of these private records. On a regular basis the Society has deposited its duplicates at the Illinois State Archives as well as at other research centers throughout the state.

Finding Your Ancestor
Research On Your Own

The ISGS maintains a listing of its microfilm collection in the Archives reference room. The listing, arranged by county and thereunder by LDS film number, provides the title and usually the date span for each record included on a roll of microfilm. A surname index is found at the end of the listing for those surnames listed in the film titles. The Archives reference staff uses the LDS microfilm number to retrieve film requests. Photocopies of records are available at a rate of fifty cents per page.

Mail and Telephone Requests
The Archives does not accept mail or telephone requests for searches of this collection due to limitations on staff research time.
