The Illinois Centennial Commission was created by a joint resolution of the General Assembly in 1913. It was composed of five members each from the House and Senate, three representatives of the University of Illinois, and two representatives of the Illinois Historical Society. Its duty was to prepare plans for the celebration of Illinois' centennial anniversary as a state in 1918 (L. 1913, p. 619). In 1916 it further was charged with arranging for the compilation of a commemorative history of the state. It expired in 1919 at which time it made a final accounting of its activities and expenditures to the General Assembly (L. 1916, p. 72).
