The Board of Examiners of Architects was created in 1897 with members appointed by the Governor (L. 1897, p. 81). It was responsible for the examination and licensing of architects practicing in the State of Illinois. The board was abolished by the Civil Administrative Code of 1917 and its powers and duties were transferred to the newly created Department of Registration and Education.

Minutes of the proceedings of monthly board meetings primarily concern the granting or revocation of architects' licenses. Minutes also include treasurer's quarterly financial reports and committee reports.

Record contains material relating to the administration of the architect examination including correspondence with examinees, examination instructions and questions, attendance rolls at each examination, and lists of examinees and their grades.
