The Board of Dental Examiners, created in 1881 with members appointed by the Governor, was responsible for the examination, registration, and licensing of dentists practicing in the State of Illinois (L. 1881, p. 77). The board was abolished by the Civil Administrative Code of 1917 and its powers and duties were transferred to the newly created Department of Registration and Education.

Minutes of the proceedings of regular, annual, and special board meetings primarily concern the examination of candidates for licenses. Included is a register of licensed dentists giving dentist's name, license number, basis for issuance of license, and the name of the school conferring diploma. Minutes also contain copies of board correspondence and a journal of board expenditures.
