Illinois Statewide Death Index Pre–1916

The Pre–1916 Illinois Statewide Death Index is an ongoing project and data entry is far from complete. The list below should be consulted to determine the status of data entry for a particular county. Data entry is complete through December 1915 for 22 of the 102 counties in Illinois. This database includes death data from 45 counties in Illinois and currently contains over 1,163,035 records. Counties that have been completed are capitalized.

Please note that the Illinois Regional Archives Depository system does not hold death records for all of the counties and date spans shown in the list. Consult the IRAD Local Governmental Records Database to determine whether death records for a particular county are available from an Illinois Regional Archives Depository. Death records not held by IRAD will be available from the county clerks of the various counties. You can find out more about getting copies of death records from IRAD or county clerks on the Illinois Statewide Death Index, Pre–1916 page.
