Can I renew my license plates by phone?
Your annual license plate sticker can now be renewed using a touchtone phone. Call 1-800-664-1212, use your Visa, Discover, Master Card or American Express and follow the instructions written on your renewal application. Your sticker will be mailed to you within five working days.

Under what circumstances am I entitled to a refund?
If you have purchased a duplicate registration (2 stickers or plates); if a car dealer purchases new license plates when you have plates that are transferable, or if you renewed your license plates and sold the vehicle before registration year started.

How long do I have to request a refund?
All requests must be made within six months of the date of purchase.

How do I apply and how long will it take to receive my refund?
By sending a note requesting a refund addressed to the Refund Division, Room 222, Howlett Building, Springfield, IL 62756, (217) 782-4908. Refunds are generally processed within 30 days of receipt.

How and where can I pay for a NSF check?
Payment can be made by cash, cashiers check, money order or credit card -- by mail or at any Secretary Of State Driver Services Facility. You also may use a credit card by calling the Returned Check Division at (217) 782-3582. Mail payment to:
